Police in Toronto fired tear gas on protesters for a second straight day as new violence surrounding the G20 summit erupted and the arrest tally climbed above 500.
Thousands of people took to the streets in Toronto to demonstrate against the twin G8 and G20 summits.
Brett Gundlock, a staff photographer for the Post, was tackled and taken away by several police officers in riot gear as they attempted to disperse protesters hanging around near the Ontario legislature.

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit central Canada Wednesday afternoon, rattling buildings from Windsor to Montreal and several U.S. states.

The epicentre of the quake was likely in Quebec, north of Ottawa, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and struck at 1:41 p.m. EDT at a depth of 18 kilometres.

At 1.41 PM a minor earthquake was felt measuring 5.0 on the richter scale. The tremors lasted for approximately 30 seconds and there are no reports of damage.

Construction of the traffic fence in downtown Toronto is finished, allowing officers to close the area to motorists at “a moment’s notice” if there is a security risk, police say.
